Assistant or Associate Professor in Leadership and Civic Engagement
Wilson College invites applications for a position at the level of assistant professor (tenure stream) or associate professor (with tenure) appointed to an existing department in the McMaster Faculty of Social Sciences with affiliation to Wilson College. Teaching and service obligations will be split 50:50 between the two units. The appointment is anticipated to begin July 1, 2026.
We welcome applications from those with research and teaching specialties that align with the College’s vision, including those that offer critical and interdisciplinary perspectives. We are particularly interested in applicants with strong academic achievements, given career stage, and interest in community-engaged or other applied research. Applicants are expected to hold a PhD at the time of appointment and to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level.
In the College, we are interested in candidates who can teach WILSON 2D03: Deconstructing Leadership: Leadership and Diversity as part of their courseload and who have interest in teaching from diverse, critical perspectives. We are also interested in candidates with interest in experiential education. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the educational, research and service missions of their home department.
Wilson College offers an innovative Combined Honours BA degree in Leadership and Civic Studies and another subject (drawn from Social Sciences or Humanities). The degree provides students with interdisciplinary theoretical and practical knowledge that both informs and enhances a broad-based and critical approach to studying leadership and civic engagement.
Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2025 and will continue until the position is filled. Interested candidates should apply with the following materials: a letter of application that specifies the home department the candidate would prefer to be based, curriculum vitae, a teaching statement that summarizes the candidate’s teaching philosophy, including some thoughts about structuring courses from an interdisciplinary perspective (max. two pages), a research statement (max. two pages), a statement that speaks to the candidate’s past contributions and ongoing commitment to the advancement of equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and/or service within post-secondary or community-based settings (max. two pages), and contact information for three referees.
