The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in quantum engineering.

Applicants with expertise in the area of quantum engineering related to photonics, devices, materials, and circuits, with applications in quantum computing, simulation, communication, networks, transduction, and sensing, are invited to apply for the faculty position. Candidates with expertise in the areas including quantum science, theoretical and experimental, are welcome to apply. The areas of expertise include novel/emerging quantum materials, quantum device design, hybrid devices, quantum error correction, spintronics, nonlinear optics quantum information processing, atom, ion, and solid-state quantum platforms.

The nanoFAB is an open access semiconductor fabrication and materials characterization facility within the Faculty of Engineering. It provides a full suite of 100 and 150 mm lithography, deposition and etching tools to support silicon and compound III-V fabrication of semiconductor based MEMS, photonics, quantum, microfluidic and sensor devices. The nanoFAB also supports materials characterization through advanced analytical microscopy, surface spectroscopy and materials analysis capabilities.

The successful candidate will join a team of faculty members committed to an exceptional student experience. The Department has over 1000 undergraduate students across the electrical and computer programs, which grew in 2025 with the new Mechatronics and Robotics program. There are opportunities to engage with students in and out of the classroom in research laboratories, capstone projects, and student clubs and teams, like Mission Space Walker, UAlberta Solar Car, and the IEEE Student Branch. The Department's graduate program attracts students who are dedicated to developing in their area of expertise from schools worldwide and presently has an enrolment of 400 students, including approximately 200 Ph.D. students. Through hands-on experiences in state-of-the-art labs and instruction from skilled faculty, we help students develop the skills they need to dream of and invent the technology of the future.

As we build our team, we recognize that our people are and will continue to be our greatest strength. Applicants who value working across disciplinary boundaries, within and outside engineering, as well as with communities and industry are strongly encouraged to apply.
