Job Description:

Position Overview

The Annsley Frazier Thornton School of Education at Bellarmine University invites applications for a 9-month, on-site, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (rank commensurate with qualifications). We seek a dynamic educator and scholar with expertise and experience in special education (learning and behavior disorders) and who shares the ethos of our mission: to prepare caring, effective educators to teach and lead in diverse settings.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach in-person and online courses in: K-12 Special Education methods (undergraduate and master's initial certification programs), Research methods (advanced graduate and doctoral programs)
  • Maintain an active research agenda focused on special education and/or teacher preparation.
  • Pursue external funding to support research and program initiatives.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate, master's and doctoral students.
  • Engage in school partnerships, community outreach, and service to professional organizations.
  • Contribute to accreditation and assessment efforts across the School of Education.
  • Support the university's mission by promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity in education.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Special Education from a regionally accredited institution (ABD candidates must earn the doctorate by the time of hire).
  • Minimum of three years of P-12 teaching experience as a certified special educator.
  • Demonstrate excellence in university-level teaching with a strong foundation in special education theory and practice.
  • Evidence of or strong potential for scholarly productivity (publications, presentations, grants).
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy and inclusive practices in education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with students with disabilities across a variety of settings and needs.
  • Evidence of successful or potential collaboration with school districts, including professional development or outreach.
  • Interest and/or experience in grant writing and external funding acquisition.
  • A well-defined research agenda in special education or a closely related field.
  • Experience serving on or chairing doctoral committees.

*Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Professor level must currently hold or have held that rank at a comparable institution.*
