Position Highlights

The Department of Psychiatry is hiring an assistant or associate professor to serve as a clinical psychologist for the Office of Wellbeing in undergraduate and graduate medical education at COM-P. This position will champion wellness and actively engage in programmatic development related to mental health and wellbeing, crisis management, and best practices in clinical psychology as it relates to trainees in medicine.

This position is 100% clinical. It involves providing counseling and therapy sessions (initial and follow-up) to individual students, residents, and fellows in training. Responsibilities include advancing mental healthcare, health education, health promotion, and wellness programs, as well as periodic evaluation of institutional policies, procedures, and protocols to mitigate undue stressors impacting student/trainee health and wellness, including appropriate referrals and maintaining client confidentiality.

The successful candidate will fulfill faculty responsibilities in the department and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health counseling consultative services to medical students and graduate trainees (residents and fellows) at COM-P.
  • Evaluate treatment protocols and procedures to ensure goals are met using evidence-based guidelines.
  • Execute timely crisis triage/interventions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community healthcare providers and client's PCP/psychiatrist for coordinated care.
  • Provide consultation, education, and training on topics like mental health, wellness, sexual health, suicide prevention, stress management, and Mental Health First Aid.
  • Collaborate with departments to create a culture of wellness and provide resources supporting academic success and personal well-being.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health and wellness programs using a data-driven approach.
  • Ensure creation, maintenance, and security of confidential records and compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and other regulations.
  • Collaborate with departments for medical, nutritional, pharmaceutical, or counseling services.
  • Provide strategic oversight and support as part of the Office of Wellbeing.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs to address student/resident wellness needs, including responding to students in distress while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Participate in event planning and execution.
  • Coordinate with mental health leaders to decrease stigma and improve access to services.
  • Help students, residents, and fellows feel heard, valued, and safe.
  • Develop strategies for sustaining wellness during milestones and stressors.
  • Assess and support health and safety risk management; oversee crisis intervention and incident reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with LCME and ACGME accreditation requirements.
  • Assist in integrating resources and updating website pages for well-being.
  • Participate on committees to articulate well-being perspectives.
  • Engage in research and scholarly work.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare administration, systems, and policies for college-age populations.
  • Ability to engage with intersectional identities and collaborate on policies to decrease health disparities.
  • Highly experienced clinician with leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellence in oral and written communication.
  • Skilled at planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating program activities.
  • Knowledge of quality assessment and improvement in healthcare management.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and direct business processes and interdisciplinary programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hold a PsyD or PhD in clinical or counseling psychology and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Be certified and eligible for practice in Arizona.
  • Demonstrated record of progressively responsible experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a practicing clinical psychologist, with focus on education and programmatic development.
  • Experience in an educational/healthcare setting with medical students or trainees.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
