Assistant or Associate Professor (Teaching Stream) in Veterinary Clinical Pathology

The University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) is pleased to announce the opening of one (1), or possibly two (2), full-time academic positions (Teaching stream) in Veterinary Clinical Pathology. Depending on qualifications and career track expectations, the appointments will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (with tenure) in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
The anticipated start date June 1, 2026 or a mutually agreed upon date.
Position requirements, qualifications, skills and achievements required for the appointment
Qualifications include a DVM (or equivalent), and board certification (DACVP and/or Dipl. ECVP) is preferred but board eligible ACVP or ECVP residency-trained candidates will be considered. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta.
- Appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor Teaching requires evidence or promise of teaching effectiveness or competency in teaching and learning, an awareness of how to apply scholarly approaches to teaching and learning practices, participation in reflective practice, and professional learning activities related to teaching and learning. Engagement in the research and scholarship required to maintain currency in pedagogy is required.
- Appointment to the rank of Associate Professor Teaching requires evidence of teaching effectiveness, a demonstrated ability to apply scholarly approaches to teaching and learning and student engagement, to design student learning experiences and assessment strategies. Continuous development of innovative teaching and that supports student learning, ability to create respectful and inclusive learning environments is required.
Teaching will be a significant component of the expected distribution of effort and will include didactic, clinical and professional identity laboratories, and 4th year (clinical year) rotation teaching in the DVM program. UCVM employs a distributed veterinary teaching hospital model. Clinical duties including student rotation teaching will occur in partner specialty practices and other practice settings. Participation in collaborative student or intern-led clinical research is desired. The remainder of distribution of effort will be divided for university service engagements (such as course or rotation coordination, committee work and/or scholarly activity).
UCVM's AVMA accredited DVM program provides a comprehensive general veterinary education to approximately 50 students per year, with an increased expansion to 100 students this fall 2025 semester. UCVM is a research-intensive faculty with expanding research, graduate education, and advanced clinical trainee programs.
