Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure-Track), Department of Sociology and Criminology
The Sociology Program in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at The Pennsylvania State University, in University Park, PA, USA, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
The successful candidate will have expertise in population-based approaches to aging, broadly defined. The position is co-funded by Penn State's Social Science Research Institute. Thus, the successful candidate will strengthen the Department and College and contribute to one of SSRI's strategic foci: causes and consequences of inequality, human development and behavior, social and environmental determinants of health, innovative and data intensive research methods, or individual and community impact.
An ideal candidate will also fit with the mission of the aging initiative being supported by the College and other units on campus, with a particular focus on federally funded aging research. Thus, the ideal candidate will be grant active or show strong evidence of external funding potential in the case of assistant professor candidates.
Candidates for Assistant Professor must have demonstrated ability as a researcher, scholar, and teacher and have evidence of growth in scholarly achievement. Duties for assistant professor candidates include a combination of teaching, research, and service, based on the candidate's qualifications.
Candidates for Associate Professor must have demonstrated ability as a researcher, scholar, and teacher and have evidence of growth in scholarly achievement. In addition, the Associate Professor must also have an established reputation and demonstrate excellence in scholarly achievement. Duties for associate professor candidates include a combination of teaching, research, and service, based on the candidate's qualifications.
A Ph.D. in Sociology, or related field, is required by the appointment date for all Ranks.
