ANNOUNCEMENT
The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, authorized by the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, announces a competition for the position of ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (ADIUNKT) in the group of research and teaching staff at the Department of Fundamental Interactions, Gravity and Cosmology, Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics of the University of Gdańsk.
The competition is open to individuals who meet the requirements specified in the Act of July 20, 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, as amended) and in the Statute of the University of Gdańsk of June 13, 2019 (as amended).

Skills/Qualifications
Qualification Requirements:
- Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in the discipline of physical sciences.
- Clearly defined research interests within the field of theoretical physics. Priority will be given to candidates whose scientific activity focuses on general relativity, cosmology, field theory, mesoscopic physics, or solid-state physics. Candidates whose scientific activity falls within the scope of the statutory activity of the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics (IFTia) will also be considered.
- Conducted research in the discipline of physical sciences, documented by publications in scientific journals where the candidate is a co-author.
- Active participation in scientific life, demonstrated in particular by presentations at international and national conferences and symposia.
- Documented experience in acquiring and implementing scientific research grants as a researcher (investigator) or principal investigator.
- Documented scientific research internship abroad or in Poland.
- Documented experience in teaching at the higher education level.
- Public outreach (science popularization) and organizational activities will be an asset.
- Proficiency in Polish and English at a level sufficient to conduct teaching classes (in the case of no prior knowledge of the Polish language, achieving the required proficiency within one year from the start of employment is mandatory).
Specific Requirements
Main Duties:
- Conducting research in the discipline of physical sciences.
- Obligation to prepare and conduct classes in Polish or English.
- Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate classes (1st, 2nd, and 3rd cycle studies) in physics, bioinformatics, and related fields, with a teaching load of 210 hours per academic year.
- Active participation in national and international scientific projects and grants.
- Applying for individual or group research grants carried out at the University of Gdańsk.
- Performing organizational tasks in accordance with the established scope of duties.

Eligibility criteria
Candidates entering the competition are requested to submit the following documents electronically to the email address biuromfi@ug.edu.pl, with a copy (CC) to marek.krosnicki@ug.edu.pl:
- Application for employment (addressed to the Rector of the University of Gdańsk), including a declaration of readiness to commence work as of October 1, 2026. If it is not possible to start employment on this date, the proposed date must be indicated along with a justification.
- Personal questionnaire for employment applicants (available on the website: https://ug.edu.pl/pracownicy/strony_jednostek/dzial_kadr).
- A copy of the Ph.D. diploma in physical sciences (or a document confirming the scheduled date of the doctoral dissertation defense).
- Academic curriculum vitae (CV) including information on scientific and teaching achievements.
- Research plan for the coming years.
- A letter of reference (required for candidates who obtained their Ph.D. degree after 2020 or are awaiting their doctoral dissertation defense date).
- Declaration of active proficiency in English.
- Declaration of active proficiency in Polish or a declaration of readiness to conduct teaching classes in Polish within one year of commencing employment (in the case of foreign nationals).
Failure to submit a complete set of documents by the deadline will result in the rejection of the candidate's application without a request to supplement any missing information.

Additional Information:
- The Competition Committee reserves the right to contact only selected candidates.
- As part of the competition procedure, the committee reserves the right to conduct an interview. Conducting the interview remotely (online) is permissible.
- Documents submitted by candidates will not be returned.
- The competition will be settled within a period not exceeding two months from the date of the competition announcement.
- The decision of the committee is final and subject to no appeal.
- The Competition Committee reserves the right to close the competition without selecting a candidate.
- In the event that the winning candidate does not take up the position, the committee reserves the right to select the second candidate from the ranking list.
- The competition is the first stage of the employment procedure for the position of an academic teacher as specified in the Statute of the University of Gdańsk, and its positive outcome constitutes the basis for further proceedings. Accordingly, the employment decision will be made in accordance with the procedure set out in Article 117 of the Act of July 20, 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1668, as amended).
