Assistant Professor – Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI)

New Mexico State University invites applications for three tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Applied AI (9-month appointments). Faculty will join an interdisciplinary cluster hire and be affiliated with the Institute for Applied AI and Machine Learning. These positions aim to address critical challenges through innovative applications of AI. Appointments will be in the College of Arts and Sciences or another college most aligned with the candidate’s background.

Knowledge

Advanced understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques and their application across domains.
Familiarity with modern instructional approaches and interdisciplinary teaching.
Understanding of collaborative, team-based research practices.
Awareness of student advising and support strategies.

Skills

Potential for impactful research and scholarly contributions in AI or related fields.
Ability to design and deliver engaging undergraduate and graduate courses.
Strong communication and collaboration with academic, industry, and community partners.
Mentorship of students at all levels in research and career development.

Abilities

Apply AI in areas such as agriculture, advanced manufacturing, or supply chain systems.
Create curricula that integrate real-world AI applications and support diverse learners.
Build and sustain productive partnerships and research networks.
Foster inclusive learning environments that advance student success, in alignment with NMSU’s mission as a land-grant institution.
