Essential Job Duties:
The School of Architecture is accepting applications for two full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors specializing in building technology and/or architectural structures. The role will offer opportunities to teach architecture studios at all levels, core lecture courses in structural systems, building fabrication, construction materials, building systems and assemblies, and advanced seminars aligned with the candidate's areas of expertise. Applicants should demonstrate both experience and potential for future development in scholarly activities and teaching.
The successful candidate will demonstrate identified focus areas for scholarship, research, and/or practice in building technology and/or architectural structures. These may include normative and innovative structural systems, construction systems, material performance, and building systems integration. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in contemporary technologies, computational design methods, artificial intelligence (AI), and/or interdisciplinary collaborations that advance the field of architectural structures and their role in building performance and design innovation.
In addition, the ideal candidate will be expected to:
- Prepare students to be successful in academic and professional settings by helping them to develop critical thinking and design skills.
- Advance the School of Architecture's research enterprise in topics that are critical to contemporary and future practice.
- Engage professional practice and industry partners in North Carolina and/or beyond.
- Seek collaborators within and across departments and colleges in the university.
Essential duties include:
- Teach 18 credits per year (typically one 6-credit studio and one 3-credit course per semester in the School of Architecture programs).
- Develop and maintain an active and significant research record.
- Serve on school, college, and university committees and task forces.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.
Minimum Experience/Education:
Terminal Master's Degree in Architecture
Required Qualifications:
Grounded in contemporary design concepts, principles, practices, methods, and tools across a range of media. Able to contribute to the excellence of the academic community through research, creative, and scholarly activities, teaching, and service. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional practice experience; teaching experience; post-professional degree, including a Ph.D. or Doctor degree. Professional licensure in Architecture
Required License or Certification:
Professional licensure in Architecture
