FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education (ECCE) in the School of Education at Lehman College, City University of New York (Bronx, New York City) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in literacies with a focus on how technology and digital literacies play a role in children’s development, and/or a related field.

The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching, service, advocacy, and leadership in childhood education, as well as digital literacies development, to engage and inspire our economically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates, colleagues, and kindergarten-6th grade partnership schools.

This is not a remote position. While some online teaching or remote administrative might be allowed, the role requires consistent on-campus engagement. Faculty are expected to maintain a regular presence for teaching, office hours, departmental and other activities.

Position Responsibilities

Maintaining a teaching load of 18 credits per 9-month academic year. Teaching assignments include undergraduate and graduate-level courses in child development, pedagogical foundations, as well as teaching methods across the humanities delivered on campus and online across multiple instructional modalities within the Childhood Education curriculum.

The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda that includes professional scholarship, presentations and grantsmanship.

The successful candidate will share responsibility for continuous program improvement and program accreditation (including AAQEP compliance), academic advisement, and department assignments, including administrative duties, program and course development.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree in Education or a closely related field from an accredited university.
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate-level teaching foundation courses in education, as well as teaching methods courses through in-person and online modalities.
  • Experience in teaching in educational settings that serve teachers and children.
  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience teaching in elementary schools with diverse populations, including multilingual students.
  • Strong commitment to social justice, anti-racism, and anti-oppression, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ongoing record of scholarship.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially as a team member.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience teaching courses in childhood development, pedagogical/curriculum development, methods of literacies, including digital literacies and/or social studies.
  • Experience in program development, curriculum and assessment design, infusing digital literacies and technologies across the curriculum, mentoring teacher development.
  • Experience in assessment, recruitment, and/or advisement.

COMPENSATION

Assistant Professor: $86,741 - $102,017 (PSC 9/1/2025)

Associate Professor: $105,816 - $121,194 (PSC 9/1/2025)
