Job Details

New York Medical College (NYMC or "College") seeks an enthusiastic, team-oriented Assistant Professor on the Educator Tenure Track ("Assistant Professor"). The Assistant Professor will join our community of educators in continuing to build and support our dynamic and innovative educational programs in the School of Medicine (SOM) and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBMS). In joining our team of health professions educators comprised of SOM faculty from basic- and clinical- science disciplines, the Assistant Professor will have the opportunity to teach broadly across several disciplines including Biochemistry, Molecular & Cell Biology, Physiology and Genetics, based on expertise. The College's medical and graduate student body is engaged in the studies of basic and clinical sciences in a variety of highly integrated, systems-based, hybrid curricula that incorporates active learning strategies into large and small group settings. Collaboration across scientific disciplines will also support the Assistant Professor in delivering basic science content as relates to, and integrated with endocrine, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, dermatologic and rheumatologic systems. This individual is motivated by and strives for excellence in health professions education, innovation and scholarship, professionalism and respect for all, which will positively impact the patients and populations that our College community serves.

  • Develop and deliver basic science curricula, in collaboration with faculty members in the same and other disciplines, and across College degree programs, as assigned.
  • Employ multiple teaching methods including case-based instruction, large- and small-group discussion, lecture, laboratory, demonstration, simulation, and team-based learning, as appropriate.
  • Serve as a small group facilitator in Phase 1 of the M.D. Degree Program.
  • Provide formative and summative assessment of student performance, including the writing of multiple choice questions.
  • Provide individual student support, feedback, and advisement, including career counseling, as appropriate.
  • Participate in student remediation plans as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing curricular continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Work closely with course and curriculum committees, faculty peers, course directors, and course administrators to accomplish the curricular goals and objectives of the Degree Programs.
  • Engage in scholarship and institutional service.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and adhere to and act in accordance with institutional policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Support an optimal learning environment for students, colleagues, and peers that also upholds the institution's values and mission.
  • Engage in professional development, including best practices in pedagogy, scholarly work and research, teaching and learning.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Deans.

Education requirement:

  • Ph.D., M.D., D.O., D.V.M., Ed.D., PharmD, or equivalent degree.
  • Health professions educational experience and/or postdoctoral training preferred.
  • Committed to team-based learning pedagogies and ability to facilitate multidisciplinary student learning.
  • Track record of research and commitment to scholarly work.

Technical/computer skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • NYMC learning management systems
  • Facile with virtual teaching/learning platforms
  • Familiarity with AI modalities in support of education and curricular innovation; willingness to develop.

Prior experience & Skills:

  • Training or experience in development and delivery of an integrated medical, graduate, and/or health professions curricula and curriculum management software systems.
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods such as interactive large and small group formats, laboratory-based instruction, team-based learning, case-based learning, problem-based learning, etc.
  • Demonstrated commitment to health professions education, educational research or other scholarly endeavors.
  • Emerging or established regional or national reputation with eligibility for a faculty appointment in the SOM.

Physical demands: Instructional environment; ability to work at a computer station for periods of time.
