Job Summary

The Department of Biomedical Data Sciences is seeking a biostatistician to join its team, working in an inspiring academic and clinical environment at both LUMC and Haga Teaching Hospital. This role involves developing novel methodological solutions for medical research problems, teaching biostatistics and data science, and providing methodological advice to clinical and biomedical studies.

Responsibilities

• Develop new statistical methodology for medical research.
• Publish findings in leading journals and present at international conferences.
• Apply for research grants.
• Advise clinical and biomedical researchers on study design and data analysis.
• Teach biostatistics and data science to PhD candidates, medical students, and students in the Leiden University master’s program in Statistics and Data Science, using self-developed teaching materials.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Hold a PhD in biostatistics, statistics, or a similar field, with a strong publication record.
• At least 2-3 years of postdoctoral experience in methodological research.
• Broad statistical knowledge and experience in providing statistical advice to medical researchers and teaching applied statistics.
• Excellent communication skills and teaching qualities.
• Specialization at the interface of statistics and machine learning is preferred.
• BKO teaching certification or willingness to obtain one.
• Experience with acquiring research grants.
• Proficiency in English; willingness to learn Dutch if not fluent.

What the Employer Offers

A fixed-term contract of 36 hours per week with the prospect of permanent employment. Salary based on education and experience, ranging from €4,818 to €7,424 gross per month (scales 11-12 under the Collective Labour Agreement UMC). Additional benefits include an end-of-year bonus, holiday allowance, sports budget, bicycle scheme, home office allowance, commuting allowance, and affiliation with the ABP pension fund.
