The academic year salary for an Assistant Professor will not be less than $82,110 based on the most recent collective bargaining agreement between the faculty union (AAUP-AFT) and Rutgers University.

The Department of Childhood Studies seeks an outstanding scholar whose research and teaching interests address childhood and youth in the social sciences, broadly conceived. Applicants must have earned their Ph.D. in Childhood Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Geography, Indigenous Studies, Black Studies, Gender Studies, Global Studies, Latinx Studies, Urban Studies, or a related field, and have a demonstrated promise of research and teaching excellence. Successful candidates will have a robust qualitative and/or ethnographic research program that brings a critical lens to the experiences of children and youth. Priority will be given to scholars who work centers age as a category of analysis, and questions the normative construction of childhoods, particularly those of marginalized youth in a global or transnational context.

The duties of a tenure-track assistant professor include engaging an active research program, teaching two courses per semester (four courses per academic year) in the area of Childhood Studies, supervising graduate students, contributing to our innovative graduate program, and generally participating fully in the life of the department. We value research quality, the demonstration appreciation for multidisciplinary approaches to the study of childhood and youth, and an eagerness to continue the department's mission of expanding childhood studies at the BA, MA, and PhD levels.

Established in 2007 as the first doctoral program in childhood studies in the USA, the department graduated its first Ph.D. students in May 2013. Childhood Studies offers a robust, multidisciplinary curriculum for BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees. Applications must include: a cover letter indicating the ways in which the applicant's research adds to the department's strengths and focuses on how their teaching and research may enhance a multidisciplinary program, a current CV, three letters of reference, a writing sample of either published work or a dissertation chapter, and one or two course syllabi (these can be from courses already taught, or a course that the candidate might offer in our department).
