The Department of Literature and Cultural Studies seeks applications for a full-time academic position at the rank of Assistant Professor from candidates with expertise in the area(s) of Chinese history (from Song to Qing dynasty), and History of Education in East Asian and global contexts.

The Department has around 35 academic and teaching staff who provide teaching and supervision to the undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in the Faculty of Humanities and the University. The successful candidate will participate in research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and community service. They are expected to do research that leads to successful grant proposals and publications in recognized refereed journals. They will also develop, evaluate and teach in programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, provide guidance to students as academic advisers, supervise students on teaching practice, and contribute to other departmental and faculty activities.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree, a publication record, and a research agenda in relevant area(s). The appointee is expected to teach in both Putonghua and English.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract. Fringe benefits include the University’s Voluntary Contributions to MPF Scheme or a contract-end lump sum payment (totaling up to 15% of the basic salary), leave, medical and dental benefits, and, where applicable, housing benefits.
