The Department of Civil Engineering at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Transportation Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2027.
Position Overview:
We seek a transportation engineer who will contribute to our undergraduate transportation curriculum while developing teaching and scholarship in transportation systems analysis, planning, and data informed decision making.
The successful candidate will share responsibility for the department's core transportation engineering curriculum and will have opportunities to develop advanced undergraduate coursework reflecting their technical and scholarly interests. Areas of particular interest include transportation systems analysis, transportation planning, traffic operations, transportation safety, intelligent transportation systems, infrastructure systems, and the application of probability, statistics, optimization, or data analytics to transportation engineering. Candidates with complementary expertise in other areas of transportation engineering are also encouraged to apply.
The Civil Engineering Department emphasizes rigorous undergraduate engineering education, close interaction between faculty and students, and integration of engineering analysis, design, and professional practice. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate transportation engineering planning and design courses, contribute to instruction in civil engineering probability and statistics or related analytical topics, advise senior design projects, mentor undergraduate research, and develop advanced coursework in their area of expertise.
The successful candidate will also be expected to establish or maintain a sustainable program of scholarly activity appropriate to TCNJ's teacher-scholar model. Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty across the School of Engineering and the College, including work involving transportation, infrastructure systems, sustainability, sensing, data analytics, and related areas. Engagement with government agencies, industry, and the engineering profession is encouraged.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates should demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and scholarly activity. Professional engineering licensure, progress toward licensure, and relevant professional practice, government, or consulting experience are valued.
The Department of Civil Engineering offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program with strong student demand and excellent post-graduation outcomes. Faculty work closely with students throughout the curriculum, including classroom instruction, laboratory and design experiences, undergraduate research, and senior capstone projects. The successful candidate will join an established transportation program and help shape its continued development in transportation systems analysis and planning.
