Position Overview

The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in cognitive human factors engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Pursue innovative and independent research in human factors engineering.
  • Establish an outstanding, externally funded research program.
  • Contribute to teaching excellence in the department.

Qualifications

Required:

  • PhD in engineering, computer science, psychology, or a related area (or near completion at the time of appointment).
  • Evidence of research excellence, demonstrated via:
    • Publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals
    • Presentations at major conferences
    • Awards and accolades
    • Strong endorsements from referees
  • Evidence of teaching excellence, demonstrated via teaching accomplishments and dossier materials.

Desired:

  • Research and teaching interests that complement and enhance existing departmental strengths.

Compensation

  • Salary range: CAD $135,000–$160,000 per annum (negotiable for exceptionally qualified candidates).
