College of AI, Cyber and Computing
The College of AI, Cyber and Computing launched in Fall 2025 and integrates disciplines in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, computing, and data science across four academic departments. With an enrollment of more than 5,300 students, the college offers academic programs designed to meet workforce demands and strengthen UT San Antonio's leadership in emerging technologies.
The college is located at UT San Antonio's Downtown Campus, anchored by San Pedro I and the new San Pedro II opening in January 2026. These purpose-built facilities serve as a base for academic programs, interdisciplinary research and connections with industry and government.
Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science currently has 29 tenured/tenure-track and 23 fixed-term track faculty members, offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs, and supports more than 2,000 undergraduates, 146 master's students, and over 80 Ph.D. students. Faculty in the Department of Computer Science conduct numerous research projects with funding from a variety of federal and state agencies, supported by over $10 million in active grants. Six faculty members have received the prestigious NSF CAREER Award, and graduate students are well-placed at leading academic and research institutions. UT San Antonio is one of only ten institutions in the country to be designated as an NSA Center of Academic Excellence in all three distinctions of Cyber Operations, Cyber Defense, and Research. Department faculty maintain strong collaborations with multiple research centers and institutes along with access to world class user facilities:
- The UT San Antonio Research Computing Support Group (RSGC) provides access to high-performance computing (HPC) architecture for researchers on campus and facilitates use of the Texas Advanced Computing Center.
- The Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) is a nationally-recognized center for multidisciplinary education and development of operational capabilities in the areas of infrastructure assurance and security.
- The Institute of Cyber Security (ICS) conducts basic and applied research in partnership with academia, government, and industry.
- The University's National Security Collaboration Center (NSCC) is creating a powerful ecosystem to engage government, industry and academia to tackle the nation's greatest cybersecurity threats.
- The Open Cloud Institute (OCI) created in 2015 is part of an initiative to develop degree programs in cloud computing and big data and foster collaboration with industry, positioning UT San Antonio and San Antonio as leaders in open cloud technology.
- The UT San Antonio AI Consortium for Human Well-Being (MATRIX) is dedicated to harnessing AI to advance human well-being through collaborative research and innovation.
- The Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CyManII) introduces a cybersecure energy-ROI for energy efficient manufacturing and supply chains that secures and sustains American leadership in global manufacturing competitiveness for decades.
Application Information
The Department of Computer Science (CS) in the College of AI, Cyber and Computing (CAICC) at UT San Antonio invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Cybersecurity and Privacy. This hire will be accompanied by several additional open-rank positions across the college, supporting UT San Antonio's strategic hiring plan to expand its nationally recognized leadership in cybersecurity.
Specializations of interest include but are not limited to network security, system security, software/hardware security, privacy protection, cryptography, machine learning, and usable security/privacy. The department is seeking candidates with experience in applying these and related specializations to create robust, secure, and trustworthy solutions that solve complex real-world problems.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform research, teaching, and program development at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of high-quality publications, potential for securing competitive external funding, and a commitment to excellence in education. Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a related field.
- All But Dissertation (ABDs) will be considered if the requirements for the Ph.D. degree are expected to be completed by September 1, 2026.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrate strong potential for excellence in research and teaching.
