Assistant Professor - Cyber Education
Job Details
Dakota State University (DSU) is seeking a passionate and innovative Assistant Professor to lead and expand cyber education outreach through the Governors Cyber Academy (GCA) and related K–12 initiatives. This position plays a key role in connecting high school students across South Dakota with early access to college-level cyber programming and career pathways in cybersecurity and computer science. The Assistant Professor will collaborate with DSU’s strongest computer and cyber sciences faculty and serve as a vital link between DSU, SD K-12 schools, and educators. This is a 9-month faculty position (August–May), with flexible start dates available in either January or August 2026. The position will report to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead efforts to raise awareness of cyber education and career opportunities for middle and high school students across South Dakota.
- Organize cyber roadshows, classroom takeovers, and counselor engagement events to promote cyber education statewide (dependent on external funding).
- Foster and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the South Dakota Department of Education, South Dakota Department of Labor, K–12 school leaders, teachers, counselors, and education service providers throughout South Dakota.
- Identify grant opportunities that support cyber education, workforce development, and K–12 outreach.
- Write and submit grant proposals, and manage awarded grants, including reporting, compliance, and financial oversight
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in education, computer science, or cybersecurity.
- Develop and maintain an active research agenda, including publishing scholarly work.
- While the role is inactive during the summer months, there are opportunities for additional compensation through designing and leading summer camps, enrichment programs, and workshops.
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in education, cybersecurity, computer science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated leadership in program coordination, education, outreach, or public engagement.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to connect with key stakeholders including educators, students, and community leaders.
- Experience designing, managing, or implementing educational programs in K–12 or post-secondary settings.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
