The Department of Mathematics & Statistics in the College of Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Data Science to begin Fall 2026. Qualified candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, or a closely related field. Suitable candidates must have: 1) A solid ongoing research program with a demonstrated publication record in the area of data science; 2) The ability to mentor post-doctoral research scholars, direct MS theses, and participate in interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs; 3) Effective communication skills; and 4) Commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses.
This position supports our rapidly growing Data Science graduate program. It is a 9-month tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor of Data Science, with a balanced 50% research and 50% teaching load, and the possibility of a reduced teaching load during the initial years.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Data Science/Statistics/Applied Mathematics/Mathematics or other closely related fields
- Strong publication record in data science research and an ongoing scholarly program
- Evidence of teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate data science courses and effective classroom instruction
- Ability to direct MS thesis committees and participate in interdisciplinary Ph.D. committees
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong record of publications and a well-defined research agenda in data science, including areas such as Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, High-Dimensional Data Analysis, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Neuromorphic Computing, and Statistical Modeling.
- Demonstrated breadth and depth of knowledge across core areas of data science.
- Experience with successful grant writing
- Collaborative ability with colleagues and evidence of interdisciplinary work
