The Hampton University Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders invites nominations and applications for a 9–month non-tenure track of Speech-Language Pathology, at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 15, 2025 or until filled.
Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders, housed in the School of Science, offers the Bachelors’ degree in communicative sciences and disorders and the Master’s degree in speech-language pathology.
Duties and Responsibilities
This 9-month faculty position requires providing clinical instruction to graduate and undergraduate students, teaching didactic courses, and academic advisement. Interest in clinic administration is desired. Serve as graduate coordinator for Commitment to student development is required. Service to the university and community is expected. Participation in research and other scholarly activities is strongly encouraged. The position emphasizes clinical education and supervision of graduate students in the Master’s program in Speech-Language Pathology. There is an opportunity for summer teaching and/or clinical instruction, which may include additional compensation.
Required Qualifications
- Holds terminal academic doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.Sc.) in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities from a regionally accredited institution.
- Eligibility for Virginia licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders.
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in speech-language pathology.
- Experience supervising student clinicians and/or clinical fellows.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR), Simucase, and/or telepractice platforms.
- Interest or experience in clinical education program development or coordination.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
