candidate must demonstrate an outstanding scholarly record, evidenced by high-impact peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and conference proceedings, and a forward-looking research agenda with the potential to secure competitive external funding. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research addresses artificial intelligence and machine learning, human-computer/robot interaction, and/or big data and social media analytics — including work that examines the design, development, and societal implications of these technologies from the perspectives of computer-mediated communication, user experience, and human factors in computing. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field of engineering, technology, or media conferred by the appointment start date. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate (and, where appropriate, graduate) courses related to their area of expertise, which may include courses in AI and Machine Learning, Human-Computer/Robot Interaction, Data Visualization, User Experience Research, User Interface Design, Social Media Applications and Analytics, and Computer-Mediated Communication. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, tenure-track position on a 9-month appointment. Responsibilities include (1) a 2/2 teaching load of undergraduate and graduate courses relevant to the Digital Media program and the Information Science Technology department, (2) an active program of independent research, and (3) service to the program, department, and university. Digital Media is a broad field that encompasses the creative convergence of digital arts, science, technology, and business for human expression, communication, social interaction, and education. The DIGM curriculum emphasizes the “producer” and “strategist” aspects of digital media alongside its technical and aesthetic components, preparing graduates for high-demand roles across industry. The Digital Media B.S. program, housed in the Information Science Technology Department within the Cullen College of Engineering, is a growing program with ~400 undergraduate students and several production and research labs, including the UH UX Lab and the CougAR Lab. Based at UH's Sugar Land campus, the program is accredited by the Accrediting Council of Collegiate Graphic Communications (ACCGC).
