Assistant Professor - English as a Second Language (Tenure Track)
Job Description
This ESL tenure-track instructional position includes a multiple-course teaching assignment each fall and spring semester that will require the use of discipline expertise, cultural humility, and student-centered practices to be successful. Teaching assignments will include face-to-face morning, afternoon, and night hours as well as online instruction. This faculty position entails working in collaboration with our existing team of passionate educators on a variety of curriculum, program, and student success efforts.

The English as a Second Language Department at Los Medanos College serves a multilingually and multiculturally diverse population of students from various backgrounds, including immigrants, asylum-seekers, refugees, undocumented students, generation 1.5 students, students transferring from adult schools, international students, and other underrepresented groups. We value this diversity and strive to create a strengths-based ESL program that is responsive to their needs. Duties and responsibilities include: advancing equitable student learning through dedicated instruction; participating in the assessment of student learning outcomes; collaborating in curriculum development and program review; engaging in department and college committees; maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter; and participating in professional development activities.
Minimum qualifications: Understanding of and sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. A Master's in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis; or a Bachelor's in TESL, TESOL, etc., with a Master's in a related field.
Desirable qualifications: Demonstrated success in employing inclusive pedagogies for ESL students; experience teaching ESL classes in a community college; ability to design and implement ESL curriculum; collaboration on program improvement; and commitment to ongoing professional learning.
Salary: Initial placement ranges from $68,136 to $112,848 per year. Position is full-time, tenure-track at Los Medanos College.
