Position Overview

The Department of Sciences is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in Environmental Chemistry/Toxicology. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry, Toxicology, or related fields such as Analytical Chemistry, with research experience in Toxicology. The ideal candidate will have an active research program, proven expertise in teaching courses related to environmental chemistry and toxicology, and a dedication to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The hiring committee is particularly interested in applicants who support the college's diversity mission through their leadership, community service, research, or lived experiences. Candidates with a history of securing external funding, ongoing collaborations, and practical experience in environmental chemistry or toxicology are preferred. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and research in Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology, and may also teach science and general education science courses. Additionally, the candidate should be prepared to share responsibilities for committee and departmental tasks, administrative and supervisory roles, and mentorship within the Department of Sciences.

The Department of Sciences at John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a vibrant community ranked among the oldest and most prestigious in the country in the field of forensic science. Faculty are internationally recognized for their diverse expertise in chemistry, cellular and molecular biology, toxicology, entomology, pathology and criminalistics. The Department offers a BS in Forensic Science (which includes the three tracks of Criminalistics, Molecular Biology and Toxicology), a BS in Toxicology and a BS in Cellular & Molecular Biology. A Master of Science in Forensic Science is also offered in the three tracks previously listed. The Department also offers an accelerated BS/MS program.

Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm and a strong commitment to teaching, along with an active research and publication agenda. The successful candidate must be eager and qualified to work with our diverse student body. Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in the area(s) of Environmental Chemistry/Toxicology or closely related area. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement (e.g., established publication record in the peer-reviewed scientific literature), ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Candidates should also demonstrate potential for securing external funding to support their research interests.

Compensation

$57,252 - $109,025. Salary commensurate with education and credentials. CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
