Assistant Professor for BSN Nursing
Job Description
Applications are invited for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in the undergraduate nursing program beginning August 2026. The School of Nursing is housed in a state-of-the-art technology building that includes smart classrooms and state of the art simulation labs. The program offers a traditional BSN, online RN to BSN and Graduate Nursing programs.
Nursing specialty experience is preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The faculty member is responsible for managing students in their assigned courses, grade course assignments in timely manner, and actively engage with students to assist the student in achieving course outcomes while teaching in the baccalaureate program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Planning:
- anticipates future developments in health care systems related to graduate education;
- working with course coordinator in the development of course content;
- obtaining and/or developing learning materials;
- communicating with the coordinator and the Director about course related activities of which they need to be made aware.
Teaching:
- demonstrates quality and expertise in teaching and/or clinical instruction;
- demonstrates professional characteristics in carrying out faculty responsibilities;
- maintains 15 TLC teaching load, 3 hours are to be dedicated to advising, research and community endeavors
Evaluation:
- responsible for self-evaluation;
- evaluates students assigned to lab and/or course he/she may teach;
- participates in program self-study;
- participates in peer evaluation and evaluation of the Director and Dean.
Research/Scholarly:
- utilizes research and literature findings to integrate best practices into teaching.
- participates in research studies and grant writing as indicated;
- active participation in scholarly activities.
Other Functions:
- leadership experience
- be able to show excellence in online teaching
- provides an environment conducive to teaching and learning;
- represents the School on College committees;
- participates in community service activities;
- participates in professional nursing organizations and functions;
- maintains teaching and clinical expertise by attending continuing education activities
- fulfills additional assigned responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Faculty teaching in the baccalaureate program must have:
- a baccalaureate degree in nursing (CCNE)
- a graduate degree in nursing or other healthcare graduate degree
- baccalaureate teaching experience preferred
- have clinical experience; minimum 3 years of practice experience
- Doctoral degree in nursing required by tenure.
- Candidate must be eligible for unencumbered RN licensure in Tennessee.
- A background search will be required of the successful candidate.
