Assistant Professor, Human Rights

The Human Rights Program at The University of Winnipeg invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary levels will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and in accordance with the University of Winnipeg Faculty Association Collective Agreement. The effective date of appointment is anticipated to be July 1, 2026.

Candidates are expected to hold a doctoral degree in Human Rights or a related discipline with demonstrated connections to human rights research. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in both Human Rights and the Master’s in Peace and Conflict Studies. Human rights related scholarship and teaching that focusses on socioeconomic rights and/or Indigenous rights is of particular interest. Candidate should have a strong research record, interest or experience in university service and governance, and a demonstrated commitment to excellent and innovative teaching with expertise to teach courses related to both Canadian and international contexts.

Experience in community engagement, applied human rights, advocacy, policy or international work is an asset.

Located in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, and on original Treaty One land, in the heart of the Red River Métis homeland, The University is home to approximately 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 340 full-time faculty, 323 instructional staff, and 489 support staff. The Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights offers 3 and 4-year degrees in The University of Winnipeg’s Global College. The Human Rights program places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as creating opportunities for students to gain experience outside the classroom through field courses, practicum placements, community engagement initiatives and research with faculty members. In addition to the B.A. in Human Rights, Global College is home to the Master's in Development Practice: Indigenous Development and the Joint Master's in Peace and Conflict Studies.
