Assistant Professor in Accounting

INTRODUCTION

The University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (UPRM), is seeking candidates to fill a faculty position in the Accounting Program. The selected faculty member must have a strong academic background and the ability to teach most courses in the program at both undergraduate and graduate levels. It is highly desirable that the candidate has expertise in one or more of the following areas: forensic accounting, data analytics from an accounting perspective, computerized accounting systems, auditing, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence in accounting. The candidate is expected to conduct research and contribute to the accreditation efforts of the College of Business Administration (CBA) by developing a portfolio of publications in peer-reviewed journals relevant to the field.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The minimum qualifications for this position, in order of preference, are:

  • PhD or DBA in Accounting.
  • PhD or DBA in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field, with an MBA/MA/MS in Accounting.
  • Ph.D. or DBA in Business Administration with an MBA/MA/MS in Accounting.
  • Doctoral degree with an MBA/MA/MS in Accounting.
  • LLM, CPA license, and five (5) or more years of professional experience in Accounting.
  • Doctoral degree with a CPA license and five or more years of professional experience in the field of Accounting; includes doctorates in areas such as Education accompanied by professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, CFE, among others.

Degrees must be awarded by post-secondary institutions accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. ... Preference will be given to applicants with academic degrees from universities accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), or the EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).

JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

This is a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, specializing in Accounting. The selected candidate must balance teaching, research, and service to the university and the broader community. Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching accounting courses in various formats (in-person, hybrid, or online).
  • Conducting research and publishing in high quality, peer-reviewed academic journals, following the publication guidelines of the College of Business Administration.
  • Providing service to the College, Campus, and University System.

The selected candidate will have a regular academic workload equivalent to 12 credits per semester.
