"Assistant Professor in African and Comparative Philosophy (0.8-1.0 fte)"

The Faculty of Humanities, Leiden Institute for Philosophy, is seeking an Assistant Professor in African and Comparative Philosophy (0.8-1.0 FTE). The role involves contributing to research, education, and societal impact in African philosophy and intercultural philosophy. Key tasks include:

• Teaching African philosophy, comparative philosophy, and other areas in BA and MA programs, including thesis supervision.
• Supervising PhD research.
• Pursuing external research funding.
• Participating in institute management and administrative tasks.
• Contributing to the institute's goals and collaborating in research networks and societal activities.

The position is at the Faculty of Humanities, Leiden University, which focuses on languages, cultures, arts, and societies. The Leiden Institute for Philosophy conducts research and teaching in various philosophical traditions.

Requirements include a PhD in Philosophy, expertise in African and comparative philosophy, a strong publication record, teaching experience, and proficiency in English. Candidates must obtain the University Teaching Qualification if not already held and learn Dutch to B1 level within two years if not fluent.

The appointment is for 18 months (or 12 months for internal candidates), potentially leading to permanent employment. Salary ranges from €4,728 to €7,297 gross per month based on full-time appointment, with benefits including holiday allowance, pension, and hybrid working options.
