Assistant Professor in Atmospheric Dynamics
Position Description
The Department of Atmospheric and Climate Science at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The proposed starting date is September 16, 2025. The successful candidate will strengthen research and teaching in atmospheric dynamics, including weather and climate phenomena, using observations, modeling, and/or theory. Areas include tropical meteorology, dynamics of convective systems, regional and global-scale climate variability, extreme events, or predictability on sub-seasonal to decadal time scales. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and support departmental missions through service. All faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
Positive factors include a productive research record with publications in top journals and presentations at conferences. The applicant will work collaboratively with faculty and mentor students from diverse backgrounds. The initial appointment is for three years, with renewal possible.
The base salary range is $9,500 - $14,000 per month, commensurate with experience. Other compensation may include a moving allowance, relocation incentive, and limited summer salary. The department resides in the College of the Environment, fostering collaborations across disciplines like ecology, biology, geology, and more. Qualifications
A Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Atmospheric Sciences or a closely related field is required at the appointment start date.
