"Assistant Professor in Biology (Tenure-Track)"

Do you enjoy teaching and engaging with students? Franklin College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Biology. We provide a strong, active, and tailored liberal arts education through small class sizes and intentional relationships between students and their faculty mentors. Located about 20 miles from both downtown Indianapolis and the Brown County Hills ecoregion, we support purposeful and practical academic experiences in and out of the classroom that leverage this location as students pursue personal, intellectual, and professional growth. The ideal candidate will have doctoral training in a specialty area in plant science and/or environmental sustainability with a minimum of 1 year of experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate students (substantial teaching assistant experience may also be considered). Candidates should provide evidence of their ability to effectively deliver college-level instruction (i.e., student course evaluations). The chosen candidate must be an enthusiastic educator with the ability to teach a variety of undergraduate courses. Potential courses include Botany, Plant Communities, Conservation Biology, Field Biology, and General Biology (for non-majors). The teaching load will be 12 credit hours per semester, with an additional 3-week winter term course taught every third year. Additionally, the candidate will help create and support meaningful student internship opportunities and supervise undergraduate research. Broad service to the college, such as advising and committee work, is also required.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching and learning, an openness to innovation, and a genuine dedication to working with undergraduates in a small, collegial liberal arts setting. Individuals with a desire to sustain and expand our Ecology and Conservation program and an interest in helping grow sustainability initiatives on our campus are particularly encouraged to apply. We encourage applicants to explore creative ways to leverage our on-site greenhouse, 32-acre nature preserve (Hougham Woods Biological Field Station), and diverse restored habitats on campus. A Ph.D. is required for tenure promotion, but ABD candidates (with degree expected by August 2026) will be considered.
