The Medical College of Georgia, Division of Cardiology at Augusta University is currently seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will provide interventional and structural heart services at the Wellstar MCG Medical Center. Services offered include complex coronary interventions, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), Transcatheter Mitral Valve repair with Mitraclip, Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion and PFO/ASD closure. The position will require high level skills including proficiency in coronary and structural heart interventions and ability to work with a multi-disciplinary heart team, Inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular consultative services with emphasis on coronary and structural heart disease management. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.
Responsibilities
- Participate in out-patient structural heart disease clinical practice at the downtown practice site and satellite locations. Staff Fellow's clinic on an as-needed basis.
- Provide assistance with mechanical support devices/ECMO and post-procedural care in support of the Heart Failure Program.
- Participate as Cath/Structural Lab Attending and participate in the Cath Call Schedule as equally divided among all interventional attendings. Expansion to other local hospitals will also require equal participation in Cath Call.
- Participate in interpreting echocardiograms/staffing the laboratory as your interest and time permits.
- Assist with staffing the CVICU equally as your other interventional colleagues who participate. Participate in staffing the Ward and/or Consult Services, and in the EKG Reading schedule, as desired.
- Participate in night and weekend call coverage for in-patient cardiology services as needed and similar to your colleagues.
- Generate work RVU's at or above the 65th%ile for an interventional cardiologist as reported by the UHC Faculty Practice Solution Center and adjusted for your assigned clinical FTE.
- Participate in the teaching activities of the Division in support of Phase I, II and III medical students; residents primarily from the Department of Medicine but also from other Departments; and the training of Cardiology fellows. We encourage you to participate in teaching pre-clinical medical students; salary support associated with these activities would further reduce your clinical effort and RVU target. Attend at least 70% of the cardiovascular service line Grand Rounds and as many teaching conferences as your schedule permits. You will be expected to participate in mentoring fellows and providing supervision and oversight to those preparing conference presentations.
- Actively participate in division decision-making, including attendance at a minimum of 70% of division faculty meetings. In addition, you will be expected to help with various marketing and outreach activities which may include short trips to meet with referring physicians, groups or hospitals. Clinic schedules can be adjusted to accommodate these activities.
- Participate in scholarly activities, such as clinical/translational research in an area of your choosing, publication of case reports, review articles, etc. If salary support is derived from research grants, your allocated clinical effort will be reduced commensurate with the increased research effort. Support a productive program of scholarly activities amongst trainees and junior faculty.
Required Qualifications
MD/DO or equivalent- Interventional Fellowship Training and Structural Heart Fellowship Training certificates- Board eligible/Board certified Interventional
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
