The Department of Computer Science at the University of West Florida (UWF) in Pensacola, Florida, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Computer Science (Position #129540) at the rank of Assistant Professor. For this position, we are interested in applicants from all areas of computing or related fields, with a particular emphasis on candidates whose research focuses on artificial intelligence and teaching interests in algorithmic programming, database systems, software engineering, operating systems, and networks. Prior teaching experience in data structures, algorithms, and database systems courses is a plus.
The primary location for this position is the UWF Emerald Coast campus in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution by the start date of the appointment and a strong commitment to teaching, academic research, and service. Primary responsibilities include teaching three courses each fall and spring semester, conducting research, mentoring students in the department, and performing service activities that also contribute to the success of the department and the mission of the university.
The appointment starts in August 2026. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
The Department of Computer Science offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science program in Software Development. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is accredited by ABET. A minor in Computer Science is also offered. The department supports several degree programs offered by other departments within our college, including Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Engineering and Cybersecurity, as well as Master of Science degrees in Cybersecurity and Data Science. Students in our degree programs enjoy the personal attention of faculty members in all facets of their education.
