"Assistant Professor in Computer Science / Data Science"

The American University of Paris invites applications for a full-time position in the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Environmental Science at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning 1 August 2026.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline by the time of appointment (1 August 2026) and show a proven capacity for engaged teaching and research, as well as proven experience related to the specialization areas listed below. Although we are looking for a technical profile, a strong interdisciplinary interest is an asset. Teaching experience or familiarity with liberal arts education is desirable. The candidate must be able to speak and write in fluent English. The ability to speak French is recommended but not required.

Candidates should provide proof of excellence in teaching. They should show expertise in their specific area and experience in Data Science and/or Software development, including academic publications and contributions to codebases in publicly accessible repositories.

Dossiers showing teaching, research, or industrial experience related to one or more of the following specialization areas are of particular interest:

• Advanced techniques for data storage/retrieval/processing/visualization on large scale.
• Cybersecurity
• Software engineering
• Machine/deep learning
• Technical aspects of human computer interaction (HRI, multi-modal, conversational agents, etc.).

Responsibilities:

• The teaching load is equivalent to six courses per academic year.
• Teaching responsibilities will primarily be focused on the department’s curriculum. Depending on their expertise, successful candidates may be asked to teach: Introductory programming classes; Core undergraduate CS classes such as: Human Computer Interaction, Database Applications, Algorithms and Data Structures, Software engineering; Introductory mathematics classes such as Math for Life and Applied Statistics; Other Data Science / Computer Science classes at the undergraduate or graduate level, depending on scheduling requirements; They may also be asked to develop and teach higher level Data Science/Computer Science classes in an area of their interest.

• Service to the department (contributing to curricular development and innovation, collegial behavior, advising students).
• Willingness to provide service to the university (participation in committee work, assessment, interdisciplinary collaboration).

• Working in a professional and collegial manner with the university community.
• Maintaining compliance with policies and procedures in the Faculty Manual.
• Willingness to contribute to the first-year program.
