Within the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, The Netherlands, a position is available for an assistant professor in Digital Marketing Analytics / AI.
What are you going to do?
The distribution of time for teaching versus research is 70% versus 30% of the appointment. The main focus of the position is therefore on teaching. At the same time, the position explicitly includes a research component, and the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the department’s research profile through academic publications, research seminars, collaboration with colleagues, and participation in the Marketing research program.
The assistant professor will teach in Bachelor’s and Master’s courses, depending on expertise and experience, and supervise BSc and MSc theses. In addition, the assistant professor is expected to coordinate courses, which implies contributing to course design, aligning learning objectives and assessments, coordinating with colleagues in teaching teams, and helping safeguard the quality, coherence, and continuity of the curriculum.
The precise teaching and research portfolio will depend on the candidate’s expertise and experience.
Requirements
The Department of Marketing is seeking a colleague to strengthen both the department's educational and research activities in the area of Digital Marketing Analytics/AI. We are looking for candidates with a quantitative/marketing modeling profile who are committed to excellence in teaching and have the ability and ambition to contribute to high-quality academic research.
To qualify, candidates:
- Have a PhD degree in Marketing or a related discipline.
- Have a strong academic background in quantitative marketing / marketing modeling, with expertise relevant to Digital Marketing Analytics / AI.
- Have excellent teaching skills and are an enthusiastic and effective lecturer, have knowledge of didactics and an understanding of teaching and assessment methods, have demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to contribute to the coordination and development of courses.
- Have experience in teaching courses focusing on data analytics and/or AI.
- Preferably hold a University Teaching Qualification or are willing to obtain one.
- Have demonstrated research potential, evidenced by international publications, forthcoming publications, or a promising research pipeline in Marketing or a related discipline.
- Are fluent in English, and preferably also in Dutch.
- Function well in an international academic environment.
- Are able to work successfully both independently and in a team.
- Have excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Conditions of employment
Fixed-term contract: A temporary appointment for a period of 18 months.
What can you expect from us?
- 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
- End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance.

The Department of Marketing is one of the leading marketing groups in Europe. The department is responsible for marketing courses for students in bachelor’s and master’s programs at the Faculty of Economics and Business, including Marketing Management and Marketing Analytics & Data Science. In addition, the department contributes to research-oriented education and supervises students at Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD level.
Scientific research is concentrated in the Marketing research program, which is part of the FEBRI research school and consistently receives very high ratings in research evaluations. Contract research is conducted within the UG Customer Insights Center and the Groningen Digital Business Center, both of which serve as bridges between science and practice.
