Offer Description
The Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN) is a category A research institution which for over 55 years has conducted interdisciplinary social research related to rural areas. IRWiR PAN researchers carry out basic and applied research and implement national and international research and implementation projects (including under the EU Horizon Framework Programmes). As experts and advisors to public sector institutions, IRWiR PAN staff take part in shaping and evaluating agricultural policy, rural development policies, regional development policy and other public policies. The Institute maintains extensive international cooperation, offering the opportunity to carry out international projects and to undertake study visits and fellowships at foreign institutions. Number of positions: working time: half-time (1/2 FTE)
Terms of employment: an employment contract for half-time (1/2 FTE) for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension into a contract for an indefinite period. Planned start of employment: 1 October 2026 (postponement is possible, but by no more than 2 months). Place of work: IRWiR PAN, ul. Nowy Świat 72, 00-330 Warsaw (Staszic Palace).
The amount of the monthly remuneration is governed by Article 91a of the Act on the Polish Academy of Sciences. Work in projects financed from external funds is additionally remunerated from the project budget.
The duties of the person employed in the research position of assistant professor will include, among others:
- participation in basic and applied research conducted at the Institute,
- conducting own research,
- applying for research grants,
- disseminating research results through scientific publications and presentations at conferences and seminars,
- systematic work towards academic development, including activities aimed at obtaining the degree of doktor habilitowany (habilitation), with the active support of the Institute's research community,
- involvement in the Institute's broadly understood organisational activity (e.g. the organisation of scientific, popular science and educational events),
- participation in the internal academic life of the Institute (seminars, reviews, mentoring of doctoral candidates and junior researchers),
- developing national and international research cooperation, including participation in research consortia, thematic networks and exchange programmes.

Skills/Qualifications
- a doctoral degree in the discipline of economics and finance,
- command of English, both spoken and written, at a level not lower than B2,
- very good command of Polish, both spoken and written,
- knowledge of advanced methods of statistical and econometric analysis and inference (e.g. advanced regression models, discrete choice models, machine learning algorithms), evidenced by publications and/or project experience,
- proficiency in statistical software and economic modelling tools (e.g. R, Stata, GAMS/MPSGE or GEMPACK),
- publications in scientific journals and/or monographs and/or edited volumes,
- ability to work in a team and good work organisation,
- independence and responsibility for the tasks entrusted,
- communication skills, creativity, availability and high personal culture.
Specific Requirements
- a statement on the education held, together with a copy of the master's diploma and a copy of the doctoral diploma,
- a cover letter containing the following information: first name and surname, date of birth, contact details, and answers to 2 questions:
- How the candidate meets the requirements set out in the competition (in particular experience in quantitative research)? and
- How the candidate would develop the quantitative research potential of IRWiR PAN, and what it would be based on (which software, hardware, modern quantitative methods, database organisation, strategic foreign partners)?,
- a statement that, in the event of winning the competition, IRWiR PAN will be the candidate's primary place of employment,
- a statement on the course of the professional career, specifying academic (projects, conferences, fellowships), teaching and organisational activity,
- copies of the most important publications (up to 10 items),
- a statement on the qualifications held, together with copies of documents confirming the information provided in the statement (e.g. an English language certificate, awards, distinctions).
