"Assistant Professor in Educational Psychology"

The Faculty of Education at York University invites highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor position in Educational Psychology. This is a tenure-track appointment to the Professorial Stream to commence July 1, 2026.

The Faculty of Education is one of the leading faculties of education in Canada with a particular focus on research with social impact. We are an engaged and deliberately diverse community of faculty, educators, staff, and students committed to academic and research excellence, democratic practices and the promotion of decolonizing, equitable, and inclusive education.

We are seeking a scholar who complements our strength and challenges traditional psychological applications in education with a focus on the promotion of social justice, inclusion, equity and decolonization. We encourage applications from qualified candidates from a wide diversity of backgrounds that integrate new knowledges and diverse methodological approaches in the field. We seek candidates that engage with critical and sociocultural approaches to educational psychology that work to challenge and push the boundaries of conventional disciplinary frameworks. We seek candidates with expertise in critical approaches to educational psychology, program evaluation, and assessment in public education with proficiency in a variety of research methods, including quantitative and qualitative approaches. The successful candidate should have experience in inclusive pedagogical design, disability-affirming and culturally relevant and responsive approaches to assessment and teaching, as well as experience with student, community and family-oriented practice. We are looking for scholars who work with newer theoretical orientations as related to pedagogy in working inclusively both within and across different cultures and epistemologies.

The successful applicant will contribute fully and broadly to the Bachelor of Education, the Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies, and the Graduate Programs within the Faculty of Education and to the development of new professional programs within the Faculty and potentially through the newly proposed School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health.

Candidate Qualifications:

• Degree: PhD or PhD near completion by the appointment’s start in Educational Psychology or a related field is required.
• Scholarship:
  • A coherent and well-articulated program of research and specialization in critical approaches to educational psychology, program evaluation, and assessment in public education with proficiency in a variety of research methods.
  • A record or evident promise of generating innovative, substantive, rigorous, and as appropriate, externally funded research and/or research creation.
  • A record or evident promise of making influential contributions and demonstrating excellence in the field (e.g., publications (or forthcoming publications) in journals, and/or other scholarly productions; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades and other achievements and contributions commensurate with career stage is expected).
• Teaching:
  • A record or evident promise of excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and dedication to students (e.g., teaching accomplishments, pedagogical innovations and course outlines).
  • Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position will involve graduate teaching and supervision.
• Additional: Competency in quantitative and/or mixed-methods is an asset.
• Demonstrated capacity to engage with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and lived experiences.
