Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering

Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering

Job Posting Number: 2026063TTL

Position Description

The Ingram School of Engineering at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Electrical Engineering, beginning in Fall 2026.

We are actively seeking research leaders whose specialization complements our key focus areas, which have been strategically mapped into four critical, high-impact domains: Sustainable Power and Energy system analysis, planning, and optimization; Transmission Systems, Distribution Systems, and/or (Next-Generation) Grid Resilience; Design and control of voltage distribution systems and Networked Microgrids; and Fundamentals of Wide Bandgap Semiconductor-based Power Converters and their application in advanced distribution systems. This pivotal position is fundamental to our new Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering, underscoring a significant institutional commitment to elevating advanced research and academic excellence. These departmental initiatives are directly integrated with the university’s overarching Road to R1 objectives, guaranteeing robust institutional support, access to dedicated research infrastructure, and amplified prospects for attracting substantial external funding. The successful candidate will be instrumental in defining the research trajectory of our emerging Ph.D. program and guiding its initial cohort of doctoral researchers.

The successful candidate will be expected to: a) establish a program of externally funded collaborative research, b) demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring, c) teach general electrical and computer engineering courses, and d) engage in university and professional service.

To assure full consideration, applications must be submitted by January 15, 2026.

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in electrical engineering, power engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Potential to establish an externally funded and nationally recognized research program.
  • An ability to teach courses in electrical and computer engineering, including core undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industrial or post-doctoral experience in the power or energy industry.
  • Demonstrated potential for research excellence in one or more of the following high-impact, fundable research areas: Advanced Control Techniques for Power Systems with Inverter-Based Resources and Distributed Energy Resources. Power system analysis, planning, and optimization (e.g., load flow, congestion management, reliability, and resilience) related to Transmission and Distribution system expansion. Wide Bandgap Semiconductor-based Power Converters and their application in advanced distribution systems. Design and control of medium voltage distribution systems and Networked Microgrids. Research in Scientific Machine Learning for transient stability prediction or model order reduction in large-scale power systems.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with faculty across multiple departments and programs.
  • Knowledge about ABET accreditation procedures and deliverables.
