Assistant Professor in Embedded Systems and Internet of Things

Assistant Professor in Embedded Systems and Internet of Things

ESTIA Campus is built around three main activities: (1) education, (2) research and technology transfer, and (3) entrepreneurship, supported by its incubator and technology park.

ESTIA trains multilingual generalist engineers in fields such as embedded systems, mechanics, computer science, industrial organization, and management. Affiliated with the University of Bordeaux, ESTIA is a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles and is accredited by the Commission des Titres de l’Ingénieur (CTI). Its academic programs also include a CTI-accredited Bachelor of Technology, an Engineering Preparatory Cycle, and a range of specialized Master's degrees.

Beyond its educational programs, ESTIA drives innovation through its multidisciplinary research laboratory, ESTIA-Recherche, coordinating national and European projects in collaboration with industrial partners. It leads fundamental and applied research initiatives, as well as expertise and consulting services. Its research chairs help sustain strong, lasting partnerships between industry and academia. To support and expand its collaborative activities, ESTIA relies on ESTIA-Tech and the specialized technology platforms: COMPOSITADOUR, ADDIMADOUR, TURBOLAB, ENERGEA, PEPSS, DATALAB and CETIA.

In addition to these activities, ESTIA offers a tailored entrepreneurial support program, managed and led by the ESTIA Entreprendre team, dedicated to student entrepreneurs and creators of innovative technological startups.

As part of its development objectives, ESTIA Institute of Technology is seeking to recruit an Assistant Professor specializing in Embedded Systems and on Internet of Things.

Research activities

ESTIA-Recherche is the Research Unit of ESTIA, registered in the RNSR under the number 201420655V. ESTIA-Recherche is affiliated with the Department of Engineering and Digital Sciences of the University of Bordeaux and is also part of the Carnot ARTS Institute. ESTIA-Recherche enrolls its doctoral students in the doctoral schools of Engineering Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Business, Economics, and Society at the University of Bordeaux. The recruited assistant professor will be integrated into the ESTIA-Recherche research project "Sustainable and Empowering Interfaces," which addresses the study, design, and implementation of Human-Human, Human-System, and System-System interactions, fostering the emergence of positive intelligence for users.

Given the desired profile, the candidate will join the research axis focusing on "Technological and Human Systems". He or she must present a research project aligned with the ongoing research within this axis on communicating embedded systems. These activities aim to address the following issue: how to make embedded systems with constrained resources (energy, computing power, memory) more autonomous—both energetically and decisionally—or more efficient in specific applications (such as sensor networks)? In this context, the candidate must be able to propose, implement, and deploy software solutions on various hardware targets (microcontrollers, FPGAs, etc.).

Furthermore, the proposed research project must demonstrate the ability to develop collaborative and project-based research (regional, national, or international) and to disseminate results in top-tier conferences and journals.

Finally, the candidate will also contribute to the development of a technological platform enabling the valorization of research activities through experimental results.

Teaching activities

The recruited assistant professor will participate in teaching Electronics, Electrical, and Automatic (EEA) in each of its initial training programs. Depending on the recruited profile, the candidate will be involved in teaching the following modules: Electronics, Electronic Engineering Project, Microprogrammed Systems, Communicating Mobile Systems, and Internet of Things. The target teaching load is 220 hours per year.

Additionally, the candidate will be expected to contribute to collective academic tasks such as supervising internship defenses and grading reports.

Finally, the recruited person will collaborate with the entire teaching team to contribute to the evolution of course content and pedagogical methods.

Position

The successful candidate will be attached to the ESTIA-Recherche department and will report directly to the Director of this department. He or she will also report to the Dean of Academic Operations and to the head of the EEA Teaching Unit for teaching-related matters.

Required profile and skills

The candidate must hold a PhD in Embedded Systems and Internet of Things and should have significant teaching experience at post-secondary level up to Master’s degree. The position must present a research background relevant to the activities described above, as well as teaching skills adapted to the disciplines to be taught. Proficiency in French, English, and/or Spanish is required.

Keywords

Embedded systems, Internet of Things, electronics, programmable electronics system.

Contract type

Permanent contract with a preferred start date in the second semester of 2026. Salary will be based on the pay scale for faculty integrated into degree programs requiring research, in accordance with the national collective agreement for private independent education. Benefits include 30 days of paid leave and 16 days of RTT per year, meal vouchers, and health insurance.

Applications

Applications including a detailed CV accompanied by a detailed integration, research and teaching, project as well as the names and e-mail addresses of three people likely to provide a letter of recommendation and any evidence of skills developed through previous experience should be sent to: Isabelle ERREÇARRET, i.errecarret@estia.fr, +33 5 59 43 84 14.

ESTIA is committed to promoting the inclusion of all individuals, particularly those with disabilities, for all positions within the institution.
