Assistant Professor in Ethics

Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts at Toronto Metropolitan University invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor effective July 1, 2026, subject to final budgetary approval.

Candidates who self-identify as belonging to an under-represented group in the discipline of Philosophy are particularly encouraged to apply.

Normally, candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Philosophy by the appointment date. Candidates who are all-but-dissertation (ABD) and close to completion may also be considered.

The successful candidate will engage in teaching, scholarly research or creative activity, and service duties while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment.

Teaching duties will include undergraduate and graduate levels, with a standard load of two courses per semester.

The successful candidate will pursue innovative research and participate in departmental and university service.

Candidates must demonstrate excellence in research, potential for teaching excellence, commitment to equity and diversity, and ability to contribute to departmental life.

This position falls under the Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association. The minimum salary is $103,916.30 per annum.

Working at TMU: Serving a diverse student population, TMU offers programs focused on practical learning and innovation.

Department of Philosophy: Consists of seventeen faculty members offering undergraduate and graduate programs.
