Assistant Professor in Finance
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Finance at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will commence on July 1st, 2026. This position will be hired into the Teaching-Scholarship-Service (TSS) work pattern. The TSS work pattern focuses on teaching (the equivalent of six (6) three-hour classes per academic year), conducting research, and providing service at the Department, Faculty, and/or University levels. The selected candidate will teach introductory and advanced level courses such as, but not limited to: introduction to finance, financial risk management, insurance and risk management, estate planning, and income tax planning. We welcome applications from candidates with a range of research interests in finance, including but not limited to: specialized areas in finance, emerging issues in finance, scholarly investigation of pedagogies in finance education, and community-engaged finance research.
The successful candidate will become an integral member of our finance team and can expect to contribute meaningfully to departmental priorities and activities. For example, the selected candidate will be encouraged to actively liaise with industry partners or professional associations on behalf of the Department and the Bissett School of Business.
QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are required:
- A PhD in Finance or close to completion of PhD in Finance (ABD), from an accredited post-secondary institution (AACSB, EQUIS, EFMD, or equivalent)
- A current, active research program in finance
- Proficiency in teaching at an accredited post-secondary institution
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
- Preference will be given to applicants who have a willingness to teach financial risk management, insurance and risk management, estate planning, and/or income tax planning.
Additionally, the successful candidate may have some of the following attributes:
- Professional experience in a financial institution
- A professional Finance designation such as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Investment Manager (CIM), or Personal Financial Planner (PFP).
- A willingness to mentor and supervise students in the BBA honours thesis program, the student investment fund, and/or student case competitions.
