Assistant Professor in Liberal Education
The School of Liberal Education invites applications for a tenure-track position in Liberal Education at the rank of Assistant Professor with a start date of July 1st, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Hiring salary will be in the range of $79,132 to $98,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. in a related discipline at the time of appointment including, but not limited to: natural science, mathematics, computer science, environmental science, or engineering. Scholars with a broad interdisciplinary background and/or training in liberal education are encouraged to apply.
Specifically, the successful candidate will have teaching and/or research interests in one or more of the following areas:
- Quantitative reasoning
- Science communication/science literacy
- Science policy
- Science and technology studies (STS)
- Scholarship of teaching and learning in natural science disciplines
Courses taught in the School of Liberal Education are interdisciplinary in nature and are open to undergraduate students completing any major. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses addressing a broad range of quantitative or science-related topics and principles to non-majors. Existing course offerings include LBED 2100 Quantitative Reasoning, LBED 2200 Problems and Puzzles, LBED 2500 Scientific Knowledge Across Disciplines, and LBED 3500 Natural Versus Human Sciences.

- A letter of application expressing interest in the position that articulates i) the candidate’s understanding of liberal education and how it relates to their potential contributions to this position; and ii) the candidate’s commitment to collegiality.
- A curriculum vitae
- A statement of teaching philosophy and approach (not exceeding two pages)
- A statement of research interests (not exceeding two pages)
- Contact information for two referees who can speak to the candidate’s achievement in or potential to contribute to teaching and research in the School of Liberal Education
