Assistant Professor in Materials Chemistry
Applications are invited for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The Department seeks candidates who are committed to creating a vigorous research program in any area of inquiry related to Materials Chemistry, in line with McGill University’s strategic commitment in Advanced Materials and Sustainability, which has resulted in the recent acquisition of more than $30M of dedicated research infrastructure in the Department. Our search will prioritize candidates proposing to explore applications in Energy and/or Sustainability (e.g., new materials for photovoltaics and energy storage; sustainable production and recycling of materials; heterogeneous catalysts for CO2 conversion). We are particularly interested in candidates emphasizing advanced materials characterization or combined synthesis/characterization research programs (although our prime criteria remain to be the originality and excellence of research). We will also consider candidates with a wide range of interdisciplinary training experience.
Candidates should have a PhD degree with postdoctoral experience, proven research ability and a strong commitment to service and teaching in Chemistry. Applications from senior candidates may be considered. Successful candidates will be expected to work well in a multi-disciplinary collaborative research environment and develop a research program and expertise that complements existing strengths within the Department of Chemistry.
All candidates must register on-line at Workday and submit electronically their application package, consisting of a curriculum vitae, detailed research proposals with a start-up budget and a statement of teaching experience and interests. During the registration, candidates will be prompted for contact information for at least three referees who can write letters of recommendation on their behalf.
Review of applications will begin on October 20th, 2025, with a possible start date of August 1, 2026. Applications will be considered until the positions are filled.
Salary will be negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience. More information about McGill University and the Department of Chemistry may be found at: https://www.mcgill.ca/chemistry
