Assistant Professor in Microbiology and Immunology

Position Profile: The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University is broadly seeking applicants in the field of T cell biology with a research interest in neuroimmunology. The successful candidate will be appointed to a full-time, probationary (tenure track) appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program and will be supported through the provision of dedicated space, and start-up funds within an interdisciplinary research environment, including core facilities and the ImPaKT CL2+/CL3 Containment Facility. There will be opportunities to establish collaborative linkages with researchers. The successful candidate will be expected to train graduate students and will carry out teaching responsibilities within the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, although protected time from teaching is provided at the onset of the pre-tenure stage.

Qualifications: The successful applicant will have completed a PhD or MD/PhD with a demonstrated track record of external award success and publications in peer-reviewed journals. The successful individual will be expected to have exceptional communication skills and be willing to provide leadership in this field of study. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level that includes both lecture and laboratory-based courses is preferred. Compensation will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience.

Department Profile: The Department, established in 1939, has a mandate of research and education in Microbiology and Immunology. Teaching occurs predominantly in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. The Department is home to 30 well-funded, internationally renowned scientists and clinician scientists whose research spans key areas of infection and immunity, including the molecular and cellular biology of microorganisms and viruses, as well as the cellular and molecular biology of the immune system. Within the department there is a developing focus in neuroimmunology and neurovirology that collaborates with a larger consortium of Western neuroscientists and neurologists.
