Assistant Professor in Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin as early as July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Hiring salary will range from $79,132 to $98,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. (or be ABD with an expected defense date) in Philosophy or a closely related field, with a specialization in Epistemology.
We seek applicants with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality research, an active and ambitious research program, and potential for securing research funding. Candidates are encouraged to study the department’s research profile on our website and to address areas of potential collaboration.
The successful candidate will show clear evidence of success or potential with respect to both teaching and service to their profession, the university, and the department. We will consider evidence of an ability to forge interdisciplinary collaborations and engage with the community as an asset.
The successful applicant will teach courses and supervise graduate students in their area(s) of specialization. The demonstrable ability to teach courses in additional areas that complement the Department's existing strengths, including courses in Non-Western Philosophy, will be considered an asset.
Review of applications will begin November 1st, 2025, with long-list interviews to be held online shortly thereafter. All applications must be submitted online, and should include: a cover letter addressing the candidate’s interest in and suitability for the advertised position in this department and University; a detailed curriculum vitae; a research statement; one single-authored writing sample of no more than 25 pages (or one published article); a teaching dossier that includes a statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness and a summary thereof, and sample course syllabi; a statement outlining one’s contributions to inclusive practices in teaching, service and/or research; and the names and contact information of three references.
Long-listed candidates will be given 10 working days for their letters of reference to be submitted. While all applications will be considered, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given preference. Understanding that career interruptions can have an impact on a candidate’s record of achievement, we encourage applicants to explain in their applications any impact that career interruptions have had on their record.
