Location:University Park

The School of Politics and International Relations is seeking an Assistant Professor to make a significant contribution to their research and teaching programme in the field of political science with a focus on quantitative methods.

The role holder will conduct original research, resulting in publications in internationally recognised peer reviewed journals and/or monographs, and will be expected to develop and win support for innovative research and teaching development proposals and funding bids.

The successful candidate’s research interests are expected to align with at least one of the school’s research centres, thus enabling collaboration.

The role holder will take responsibility for convening modules and planning and delivering high quality teaching on quantitative methods, and pastoral care for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Finally, the role holder will make a significant contribution to the school via leadership and/or administrative management and/or co-ordination of specific initiatives.

About you

The successful candidate is expected to have research expertise that complements and extends that of at least one of the School’s Research Centres. You are expected to show evidence of publication record that demonstrates a commitment to research and publication at an internationally recognised level, and evidence of potential to generate external research funding.

Applicants should have the ability to contribute to the school’s existing undergraduate and postgraduate teaching curriculum, including core modules and quantitative methods pathway, and they should be able to teach quantitative research methods to undergraduate and postgraduate students using R. Previous teaching experience using R is desirable.

Applicants should possess excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, be able to engage and retain the interests and enthusiasm of students, a strong sense of teamwork, commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and ability to undertake a variety of administrative duties.

Interview Process

Interviews will be conducted as a two-stage process. Initial interview will be conducted via MS Teams. Successful candidates will then be invited to attend an in-person interview event where they will be expected to make two presentations to staff and students as well as a further face to face panel interview. Support can be offered for reasonable travel expenses within UoN guidelines up to a maximum of £2,000. Please note budgetary approval must be sought in advance.

The post is offered on a full time, permanent contract.

Your working hours will be 36.25 hours per week.
