Assistant Professor in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or Public Policy
The Department of Political Science at the University of Rhode Island is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or Public Policy. This is an academic year appointment starting in the Fall of 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach graduate-level courses in Public Management or Public Policy for the online Master of Public Administration (MPA) program and undergraduate political science courses in areas such as Public Administration, Public Management, or Public Policy. Experience with online instruction is preferred. The candidate must maintain an active research profile, contribute to the MPA program governance including curriculum planning and assessment, and provide service to the department, university, and professional community.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or completion by September 1, 2026, in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or Public Policy.
- Specialization in Public Management or a related public policy field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses in at least two of: Seminar in Public Administration and Policy, Ethics in Public Administration and Policy, Public Personnel Management, Public Budgeting and Finance, or other Public Management courses.
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or Public Policy.
- Ability to deliver high-quality online graduate courses with effective teaching and student engagement.
- Evidence of research in Public Administration or Public Policy.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Research expertise in areas such as ethics in public administration, performance management, representative bureaucracy, leadership, information and technology management, local government management, or specific policy fields.
- Evidence of online instruction or training in online pedagogy.
- Ability to teach on identity plurality and intersections in public administration and policy.
