Assistant Professor in Sociocultural Anthropology
The Department of Anthropology at the University of Lethbridge invites applications from sociocultural anthropologists for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence on July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Hiring salary will be in the range of $79,132 to $98,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
We are seeking to hire a sociocultural anthropologist with a strong and active record of ethnographic research with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality research, and potential for securing research funding. The successful candidate will be able to expand our faculty expertise and course offerings in terms of both geographical area of focus (e.g. Oceania, Asia, Middle East) and research concentration (e.g. health and medicine; psychology and cognition; language and communication; urban studies; art and performance; gender and selfhood). In addition, they would be expected to teach our general introductory class, contribute to teaching other required courses in our program (such as Theory and/or Methods, and a regional ethnography course), and to develop additional undergraduate courses relevant to their interests and expertise that contribute to our existing offerings. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to supervise graduate students either through the department or interdisciplinary programs administered through the School of Graduate Studies. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. or be nearing completion of a Ph.D. in Anthropology, with a strong record of scholarship and teaching experience, as well as an interest in departmental service.
