Assistant Professor Position in Soil Science -Tenure-Track

The Department of Agriculture at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (FAFS) of the American University of Beirut (AUB), located in Beirut, Lebanon seeks dynamic and motivated candidates for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor Faculty position in Soil Science. We seek dynamic scholars capable of developing a strong research program in soil science while contributing to the undergraduate and graduate teaching missions. The appointment will be at the level of Assistant Professor, starting August 15, 2026.

The Department of Agriculture is committed to promoting sustainable food production through cutting-edge research, education, and outreach. The candidate will build upon the department’s capabilities and advance new directions that respond to emerging challenges in sustainable land and resource management. The candidate should be able to develop active collaborations nationally and internationally, to advise graduate and undergraduate students, to engage with relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Soil Science, Soil Fertility, and Plant Nutrition
• Demonstrated potential for developing an externally funded research program
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentorship
• Ability to contribute effectively within a collaborative academic environment

Responsibilities:

• Establish and maintain an active, externally funded research program in soil science with a strong focus on soil fertility and plant nutrition (40% Research)
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in soil chemistry, soil fertility, and plant nutrition areas (4 courses per year) and advise and mentor graduate students (50% teaching)
• Contribute to departmental service, curriculum development, and interdisciplinary initiatives (10% Services)

The candidate will have access to a state-of-the-art soil laboratory facilities and established field research plots at the 100-ha AREC research station. The position offers a competitive start-up package and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration within the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and across the university.
