Department/CollegeBackground Our department currently serves approximately 880 undergraduate and graduate students (including 27 at the graduate level). We are a dedicated team of 8 faculty members (4 tenured and 4 professional track), offering a wide range of courses primarily in face-to-face formats at both the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.Our academic programs include a BA in Spanish and a Spanish Teaching Certification, while also providing a minor in Spanish for healthcare and a general minor in Spanish. At the graduate level, we offer a master's program in Spanish and a graduate certificate in Advanced Placement Spanish Literature. Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Peninsular Literature or closely related field (e.g., PhD in Spanish, ,regardless, must have 18 graduate hours in Spanish). ABDs will be considered, but a conferred doctorate is required by August 31, 2027 for appointment. 2) Demonstrated potential for a strong research and publication record. 3) Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence. 4) Demonstrated potential for external research funding and support. Discipline Specific Required Qualifications: 18 hours in Spanish or 18 hours in Peninsular Literature. Has at least 1 publication in the last 3 years in research area. Preferred Qualification: Already has PhD and a well-established research agenda that resonates with UTRGV's multicultural values.
