The English Language and Literature (ELL) Department at the NIE invites qualified individuals to apply for the Assistant Professor position in Technology and Language Learning. As an academic department within an institution devoted to teacher education, ELL is dedicated to innovative teaching and high-quality research in the areas of English language and linguistics, literature, and English teacher education. We have a strong and diverse team of highly dedicated faculty members engaged in cutting-edge disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and education research who are committed to bringing theoretically robust and practice relevant perspectives to classrooms. Our mission is to develop critically engaged, socially responsible, knowledgeable, and passionate individuals and English teachers for the 21st century.
Requirements
Applicants should minimally satisfy the following criteria:
- a PhD or EdD qualification in Technology and Language Learning from a university of good international standing (applicants who are nearing completion of their doctoral studies will be considered but PhD/EdD must be in hand for the appointment)
- a track record of scientific research, presentations, and publications in Technology and Language Learning
- evidence of excellence in teaching courses or workshops on applying artificial intelligence and/or digital technologies in language learning and teaching
- Applicants with classroom-based research experience / interest are given preference.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- contribute to teaching and course development at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as related activities such as thesis supervision and examination, and supervision of teaching practice
- obtain competitive research funding, develop a robust research agenda and maintain a strong publication record
- undertake administrative roles and to contribute to other service-related activities at the department or institution level
- establish partnerships with local and international researchers and practitioners to explore avenues for research and teaching that will create an impact in the discipline and/or educational practice.

- two sample publications; and
- names, addresses, and email addresses of three academic referees.
Please note that shortlisted applicants will be first invited for an online interview. If selected to proceed to the next round, they will be invited for a campus visit where they will be expected to present a job talk, and to conduct a lesson in their area of expertise for our students at NIE.
