Position Profile
The Department of History at Western University invites applications for one half-time position in International/Global History and International Relations. The successful candidate will be appointed to a Limited Term appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be appointed for a term of 2 years at a 50% reduced workload. The anticipated start date is January 1st, 2027, or as negotiated.
The responsibilities for the position include a 2-2 teaching load (Western University has a semester system). The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in modern international/global history, historical international relations, and modern European or Soviet/Russian history, and will participate in the administration of our undergraduate program in International Relations. Participation in graduate supervision and service to the Department, the University, and the profession are also expected.
Academic and/or Clinical Expectations
The successful candidate will demonstrate effectiveness in teaching and a commitment to innovative pedagogy, curriculum development, and mentorship of students. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are also requirements. We are seeking a candidate who is collaborative, collegial and community minded, who is keen to engage in the life of the Department and promote the program in International Relations. Academic event planning and organization experience would be an asset, as would experience with media appearances or interviews. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a regular on campus presence at Western University.
Qualifications or Experience and Skills Required
PhD in History or a closely related field
We seek candidates with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and researching international/global history, historical international relations, and modern European and Soviet/Russian history, whose teaching and research interests complement and enhance existing department strengths. Teaching excellence at the undergraduate level may be demonstrated through a teaching dossier including a teaching statement highlighting previous experience that can include leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, delivering conference presentations or posters, experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor; sample course syllabi (either of courses delivered by the candidate or planned for the future), or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application.
Compensation Details
Salary range is $50,000 - $55,000
